Struve Geodetic Arc point (1841) is located in Hyyppä hill, on the highest point of Hailuoto (31 metres above sea level). There are also trekking and cross country skiing trails in Hyyppä. The location of the point is not marked in the ground because the sands constantly shift the shape of the hill and the surroundings don’t have any dimension stones.

Struve Geodetic Arc is a chain of survey triangulations stretching from Arctic Ocean to the Black Sea. It was used to researcht about the shape and size of the Earth in the 19th century. Struve Geodetic Arc point chain is one of the Unesco’s World Heritage Sites. Six of the measurement points are located in Finland. Points are important historically and also exellent places to view the scenery.
