Resident’s initiative

The Local Government Act guarantees residents a right to launch initiatives to the municipality in matters relating to municipal operations. The person making the initiative will be notified of the procedures that will follow his or her initiative.

The Kuntalaisaloite.fi service is produced and administrated by the Ministry of Justice and provides a platform for citizens to draw up initiatives, in Finnish or in Swedish.

Election

General election means that at the election, everyone, who complies with the election rules and regulations, may vote. The municipal office is used for voting in Hailuoto.

The following national elections are held in Finland:

  • parliamentary elections every four years
  • municipal elections every four years
  • presidential elections every six years
  • European Parliament elections every five years

In addition to elections, also referendums may be held based on general right to vote

  • a consultative governmental referendum
  • a consultative municipal referendum
