Building Control Department, as its name implies, controls and advises building and land-use implementation as well as supervises maintenance of buildings and built environment to ensure healthy, comfortable and safe place to live. Moreover, Building Control Department gives residents an opportunity to influence the development of their environment.
Healthy construction solutions, safety and technical quality of the buildings are maintained by guidance, control, licence management and inspections.
According to Finnish legislation, statutory functions regarding building control are the charge of a committee or some other multimember body, excluding the municipal board, appointed by the local authority (Land Use and Building Act section 21). In Hailuoto municipality, Technical Board is in charge of statutory building control functions. The board delegated power of decision-making regarding permits to the Head of Technical Services.
